Summer at the Wollaston Garden Club - 2013

 

 There is a lot for us to learn during the summer months in actually maintaining a garden. The importance of pinching back, deadheading, and weeding; to extend bloom and manage our perennials are important skills that all good gardeners learn to master. There are places to work/volunteer with knowledgeable club members and fine tune your skills:

 

1)  The Hill Side and Corner at Beale and Newport Ave Deadheading the Mary Todd daylilies and getting rid of the crown vetch are the biggest concerns for Jo Costello and her CB crew. Call/e-mail Jo and get yourself placed on the schedule.

 

2) The four-season Josiah Quincy House Garden on Muirhead St in Wollaston has many perennials in brilliant color and bloom right now. Volunteer for an hour of deadheading and weeding with Master Gardener, Cynthia L or Pat A.

 

3) The Adams Shore Library Indoor Succulent Garden is a good place to learn/help get these new succulents established. Marylynn Sullivan is at the library on Wednesday afternoons - the library is open in the afternoon on Mon - Thurs - ask for the succulent journal to log in any work you do .

 

4) The Dorothy Quincy Homestead on Butler Road is always in need of weeders and deadheaders (Master Gardener, Rebecca D can be reached by phone or e-mail for times when she is on site).

 

6) Atrium & Children’s Peace Garden at the Thomas Crane Library Main Branch will be having weeding parties with Claire Fitzmaurice and students from Broad Meadows MS, and Friends of the TCL.

 

*** Many of us gather at the Quincy Farmers' Market in the parking lot across from the Quincy District Court on Fridays around 1 pm to shop and catch up with each other. Join us....
