Wonderful Meeting on 'Unusual Bulbs' in February
The program for the February 20th evening meeting on “Unusual Bulbs” was presented by Russell Stafford of Odyssey Bulbs. Stafford is a
trained and experienced ecologist, horticulturalist, botanist and nursery owner. Stafford handed out a list of unusual and hardy bulbs for our region and with a power point presentation he detailed
each of the plant varieties, he referenced. Many of the bulbs were fall planting bulbs; most of us went home with a new list of interesting bulb varieties to be tried. Besides narcissi, crocus
and tulips, Stafford recommended species crocus, colchicum, galanthus (snowdrops), rock garden iris, leucojum, fritillaria, ipheion (spring starflower), camassia, allium, eremurus, corydalis,
eranthis, and erythronium. All of these bulbs, and many more, can be viewed on line and purchased from Odyssey Bulbs at www.odysseybulbs.com
Anne Ciarfella was the hostess for the fantastic refreshments with help from her committee of Barbara L, Marylynn S, Florence C, Ellie
C, Mary B, Lisa T, Anita F, Linda B, Anne Marie B, Ann C and Ruth D... Alison M. designed the lovely buffet table spring flower arrangement in a beautiful pottery bowl. An indoor yard sale of garden
items was a huge success.
As usual, a business meeting conducted by club president, Jan Clifford, preceded the program.
