“Design of Wreaths, Swags & Mantel Decor”
Program for November
The November meeting was another busy one with a horticulture educational exhibit on arboreals, Greens Sale sign-up sheets galore, and a great program on floral design with our own Horticulture Chair, Master Gardener, and talented floral designer, Cynthia Lewis.
The hostess for the meeting, Trudy Sullivan presented a really special buffet table of appetizers and desserts; while Marylynn Sullivan created the beautiful table centerpiece of fall color. Members signed up to help for the Greens Sale on Wednesday (Dec 4), Thursday (Dec 5), Friday (Dec 6) and Greens Sale Day (Dec 7). The business meeting preceded the program..
The real highlight of the November meeting was Cynthia Lewis and her program designing beautiful unique holiday wreaths, swags and floral arrangements. Cynthia's style is natural and asymmetrical. She uses seed heads and pods from her perennial garden as well as berries and branch material found locally. Lewis demonstrated wiring techniques that are so essential to ensuring that materials stay in place. Lewis explained the characteristics of the many commonly-used greens she uses in her arrangements; we especially loved her use of birch and harry lauder walking stick. Cynthia recommended we study books, magazines for current design ideas and attend classes and workshops to improve our skills; she makes the design process seem so simple and inspires you to go right out and design.
Look for these new design ideas at the Holiday Greens Sale on Saturday, December 7 from 9 am to noon at the Wollaston Congregational Church, corner of Winthrop and Lincoln Avenue!
