Garden Club Welcomes Community to Its Opening Meeting (September 19)

As part of the mission of the Wollaston Garden Club, the community is invited and encouraged to attend many of its monthly meeting programs. Programs range from floral design to conservation, horticulture and garden study, and are held at the Wollaston Congregational Church Social Hall at 48 Winthrop Avenue, Wollaston. The opening program for this season, on Thursday, September 19 (12:30 pm) was a horticulture lecture/demonstration “The New Terrarium: Creating Beautiful Displays for Plants and Nature” with nationally-known horticulturalist, Tovah Martin. Martin is the author of two favorite garden club books: “The New Terrarium” and “The Unexpected House Plant” and writes for many periodicals, including Garden Design and Horticulture magazines. In this program she will focus on how to bring all the benefits of the outdoors close to you, with new design and plant ideas for terrariums and growing unusual house plants.

Virginia Duffy was hostess for the meeting, serving a wonderful luncheon. Marie Blanchard designed the fall buffet table arrangement and Linda DelaCroce designed the mini table arrangements. A brief business meeting was conducted by club president, Jan Clifford.

The Wollaston Garden Club, in its 86th year, is dedicated “to promoting and encouraging the love of gardening and the study of horticulture, floral design and landscape design; and to aid in the protection and conservation of our environment and to continue civic beautification in the City of Quincy”. The club’s two biggest fund-raisers, supporting its many civic programs, are the Holiday Greens Sale on Saturday, December 7th and the Spring Plant Sale on Saturday, May 17th. Wollaston Garden Club is a member of the National Garden Club, Inc, and The Garden Club Federation of Massachusetts, Inc.
