WGC MONTHLY MEETING MINUTES & PRESIDENTS’ TEA - APRIL 17, 2014
The meeting began at 11:45 am; Presiding: Janet Clifford, President
Jan C. welcomed everyone to our Presidents' Tea meeting. She then introduced visiting dignitaries: Leslie Mullen, District Director of the South Shore District, and Gail Freel, Assistant Director. Jan C. then read the names of the clubs, asking each club representative to introduce themselves and their guest.
A big thank you went to Ruth Griffin, our special event projects chairperson; Ruth also had a great deal of support from the Board members and "special" friends of the Board. Ruth G. designed the gifts for our guests, as well as the beautiful table arrangements/floral designs. The hostess helpers was the WGC Board and committee chairpersons.
Jan asked for a motion to dispense with the reading of the Treasurer's report and the regular club business. Jan C. asked members to check the front table for sign up sheets to events forthcoming.
Announcements:
Dividing Perennials workshop with Carole Fischer; on Saturday, April 19th.
Jan C. presented special certificates of Cultural Commendation from Mass Hort to Carole Fischer(2) and Ruth Griffin(1), given in recognition for their plants displayed in the Northern Window Exhibit at the Boston Flower Show.
Installation Dinner May 15th at 6:45 pm. A new Board will be installed and new committee chairs;
A workshop on Basics of Bonsai; a trip to Arnold Arboretum to see Flowering Trees and Lilacs; and a trip to the Wakefield Estate in Milton. See information in your yearbook.
Marnie D. is available to take annual dues payments for membership renewals.
Cynthia L. and Ruth G. have been working hard on their entry in the Art in Bloom presentation at the MFA from April 26-29th.
Plant Sale: on May 17th. We are looking for plants from your garden and workers to dig up and pot plants. We also need runners and sales associates for the day of the sale. Jan C. will send out a general announcement to all members. There is a sign up sheet on the front table.
The position of Second Vice President is open. Jan C. explained the responsibilities of the position and that it is a two year term. She asked them to contact Janet L. if they are interested.
Jan C, then introduced the nominees for the other six positions and asked for a vote to approve them for the next two year term. They were: Anita Fasano, President; Colleen Lawler, First Vice President; Susan Lynch, Treasurer; Marnie Dunn, Assistant Treasurer; Kathy Ceurvels, Corresponding Secretary; and Jan Clifford, Recording Secretary. There were no nominations on the floor for SVP. The new slate of officers that were announced was approved by all. No one opposed the slate. Motion to accept was made by Elaine MCG. and seconded by Janet L.. Anyone is interested in becoming the next SVP or a committee chairperson, please contact Janet L.
Anita F. introduced our program speakers: Elaine DiGiovanni and Linda Ladd did their presentation of "Welcome Spring and Summer". Several beautiful floral arrangements were created and raffled off as well as our table floral arrangements. It was a wonderful event.
