WOLLASTON GARDEN CLUB: MONTHLY MEETING MINUTES

OCTOBER 17, 2013

The meeting began at 6:45 PM; Presiding: Janet Clifford, President

Jan C. welcomed everyone to the meeting and thanked the head hostess Faith Raimondi and her assistants: Linda B., Pam S., Marie Z., and Susan L. for a great job on the refreshment table. Pam S. did double duty as she provided the floral arrangement for the beautiful buffet table.

A thank you also went to Mary C. for the “Books in Bloom” table. She was joined by Pat A., and Leah S.

Raffle tickets and gloves would be on sale tonight by Kay B. and Kathy C.

Susan L. read the Treasurer’s report.

Susan L. distributed copies of the latest hospitality guidelines. Susan asked that all members familiarize themselves with the guidelines to assist us in providing refreshments at the monthly meeting.

Jan C. announced that the tax forms and renewals have been prepared and mailed.

The budget for the upcoming year was presented to the members at September’s monthly meeting and was approved by all in attendance. There are extra copies for anyone who missed last month’s meeting. If anyone has a question, please contact Jan directly, or speak to her after the meeting.

The September monthly meeting had 55 members and 9 guests.

Cynthia L. and Ruth G. have agreed to do the “Art in Bloom” arrangement this year. The response form was mailed today. There should be no question of getting a spot in the program this time.

Greens Sale season is upon us. We need the help of everyone in the club, particularly the seventy people who signed up for the Greens Sale committee. Because Thanksgiving is late this year, the Greens Sale will be on December 7th. We will try to get the word out so that people will wait for us before buying their decorations. The Greens Sale planning committee has met once and we welcome any thoughts or ideas you have.

There are sign-up sheets on the table for you to indicate when you can assist with creating arrangements, etc. provide us with greens, or what you would like to help with on the days we will be here for the greens sale preparation.

We are spending more this year on Programs, so therefore we need to increase our revenue as much as possible on our two fundraisers to keep our bank balance healthy.

Committee Reports:

Pat A. gave an update on the “North Window” project and the Red Tulip project, as well as the poster and essay contests for the schools; the updated Bottle Bill petitions, which she had available for signatures.

Articles will appear in the Quincy Sun soliciting participation from Quincy students in the contests.

Mary C. gave an update on “Books in Bloom”.

Elaine McG. updated us on the Conservation Committee’s recent meeting and discussion.

Anita F. introduced the evening’s speaker: Kerry Mendez. She is the owner of Perennially Yours Nursery. Her subject was “Outrageous Foliage Plants”.

The meeting adjourned at 9:00 PM.
