MEMBERS’ GARDEN TOUR AND STROLLS
It is tradition in the Wollaston Garden Club not to meet formally but to visit each others gardens during the summer months. We believe that visiting other people’s gardens is the best way to learn about new plants and landscape styles. Our gardens change so much from June to August as different plants are in bloom. Hosting a tour garden or stroll also allows the club gardener a real incentive to work on and improve their garden site for the event.
The Members’ Garden Tour is held traditionally in June in the evening. This upcoming year members will visit at least two different gardens, and enjoy a progressive dinner along the way. A few hostesses are assigned to each garden on tour to organize the volunteers bringing food; so that the host gardener can focus on the garden tour. This event is open to members only and sign up is required.
The Garden Strolls are held in both July and August. The garden is open from noon to dusk. Visitors need not call or be hesitant to wander anywhere in the garden. The host may or may not be home; you may stay as long as you want. The host may provide iced drinks and a dessert. You are welcome to bring a friend. Take photos.
These summer garden club events are planned and organized by our Horticulture Chair, Cynthia Lewis. If you want to participate with your garden on a stroll or tour, please contact Cynthia. There is also a place on your WGC Membership Renewal Application to check off “garden tour”; if you respond positively Cynthia will contact you. We always love seeing the gardens of our club members, and really encourage more members to host a tour/stroll.
PRESIDENT'S GARDEN TOUR IN SEPTEMBER
The president of the garden club hosts a garden tour in early September from noon to dusk. Besides the opportunity to view another member garden; your new club yearbook/directory is passed out. This saves the club on postage. We encourage members who can attend to pick up yearbooks for those neighbors/friends unable to do so. The Membership Chair, Linda Della Croce is eager to help if you have specific questions or needs regarding receiving the new yearbook/directory.
